NOTICE : FREE WIPO SEARCH SERVICE
A principal mandate of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is to provide technical assistance to developing countries in order to accelerate the economic, social and cultural development in developing countries. This includes:
- Access to and the use of technological information contained in patent documents
- Expert assistance in training and collections of patent documents
- Handling of individual requests for patent information with the use of their own unique WIPO Patent Information Services (WPIS)
WIPO has been instrumental in ensuring that a number of developing and transitional countries establish a national industrial property information system.
The WIPO Patent Information Services for Developing Countries (WPIS) are offered at no cost; this is due to the handsome contributions made by a number of industrial property offices world-wide , namely Australia, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cuba, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Russian Federation, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the European Patent Office.
Many industrial property offices also provide free copies of their national patent documents, namely Belgium, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Republic of Korea, South Africa, et al.
On-line searches undertaken by WIPO are facilitated by the courtesy of Derwent Information.
